However, it was an iconic turning point in the Somerset event’s history which helped it become what it is today.

UPDATE:Sean Paul has been confirmed as the ‘secret’ Saturday night John Peel headliner, though several other TBA slots remain throughout the weekend.

Foals have again been rumoured to appear at Glastonbury 2019 after yesterday’s full line-up and set times announcement, which left dozens of slots marked as ‘to be announced’.

One slot marked ‘TBA’ is Saturday’s John Peel Stage headliner, with a one hour 15-minute set due to begin at 22:30. Fans on social media are hoping a Foals secret set could fill this slot.

Foals’ tour listings show they’re booked to play in Kingston, South London on the Thursday of Glastonbury, with the weekend itself kept free. Their next booking is a gig in Dublin the following Tuesday. ‘Glasto gaps’ like this are sometimes spotted before Glastonbury appearances are announced.

Following rumours Foals would appear on the Glastonbury line-up back in January, frontman Yannis Philippakis told Radio 1’s Annie Mac they would love to appear at the festival. He said: “We genuinely don’t know. If Emily Eavis is on the line, then ask her. We would love to go back.”

Emily Eavis created The Park area at Glasto with husband Nick Dewey back in 2007, which also has two TBA slots at 11:30 and 18:15 on Saturday.

The Guardian initially listed American DJ Diplo as the Saturday John Peel headliner, but this has since been updated to TBA. He featured on the original line-up poster but has since been removed and was not part of the full line-up release yesterday.

Foals are releasing two albums this year. ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 1’ was released back in March, with Part 2 set to debut in September.

In a Twitter poll by Le Rac Shack, who will be serving alpine dish Raclette at Glasto’ next month, festivalgoers were asked who they’d like to see perform a secret set. Foals came out on top, with 47 per cent of the vote.

After Foals appeared at Glastonbury 2016, The Telegraph’s Neil McCormick said: “Any doubts I have harboured about Foals ability to fulfil their ambition to be Glastonbury headliners was dispelled by a massive, mesmeric set of alternatively flowing and pummelling mantric rock.”

Foals will feature on the line-up at Germany’s Rock am Ring and Rock im Park earlier in June, alongside Tool, Slipknot, and Slayer.

I’m calling @foals, purely out of self interest!
